Building the Biggest Smart Locker Network in Iceland

The Partnership

Dropp is transforming out-of-home delivery in Iceland, running a highly efficient logistics network where 90% of parcel volume already moves through PUDO. By the time Dropp was ready to expand into smart lockers, they weren’t looking for a shortcut. Their operational maturity meant they needed a partner who could integrate cleanly with the systems they had already built.

Bloq.it and Dropp's relationship goes back to the company's earliest days, when Dropp first explored what smart lockers could mean for Iceland and how OOH delivery would evolve in the market. As that market matured and the opportunity became clear, Dropp returned to Bloq.it to build something more substantial: a full-scope locker network running on Bloq.it hardware, software, and management systems, delivered under Dropp's own brand through Bloq.it's white-label solution.

The Product

The partnership kicked-off in September 2025, with the pilot locker arriving in Iceland in November and the first rollout deployed in February 2026. The 10 grid-powered locker units across supermarkets, PUDO locations, and petrol stations, aim to test performance across the kinds of high-traffic, everyday locations that make lockers genuinely useful to consumers.

A key factor in Dropp's decision was Bloq.it's API. Dropp runs proprietary, homemade internal systems and needed a partner whose integration layer was both robust and flexible enough to connect without friction. Alongside that, the hardware itself had to prove it could handle Iceland, a market with specific and demanding environmental conditions that not every locker on the market is built for.

Dropp is also the first operator to deploy Bloq.it's white-label solution, running the full locker experience under their own brand without the need for custom code or technical development. It reflects the confidence Dropp has in Bloq.it’s product quality, and an opportunity for both companies to gather real-world performance data that will feed directly into future development.

Looking Ahead

A second wave of deployments is already in preparation, featuring a broader product mix than the pilot. For Dropp's customers, the impact is straightforward: more collection points closer to home or along their daily commute, available around the clock. Dropp already offsets all transportation emissions and uses electric vehicles for home deliveries, and the locker network extends that commitment further. In a country where personal vehicles remain the norm, shorter and less frequent collection trips mean fewer emissions from consumers, while denser delivery networks allow drivers to serve more parcels with fewer stops.
